In December 2019, I looked for a way to give back to the people in my community – the people who welcomed me as a new small business. “Hear for the Holidays” was born, and for the past three years, I’ve given away a total of six sets of hearing aids to wonderful, deserving patients.

Joanie Hefner was the very first winner. She stopped by recently for an appointment and is still on cloud 9. Joanie said before she received her hearing aids, she felt like an outsider in her own home…especially during the holidays.

“I spent all this time preparing for everyone to come over and when they got here, I sat in the back of the room and felt like an outsider because I couldn’t always understand what was being said,” she explained. “I heard them, but I couldn’t understand them.”

Her daughter stuck by her side to explain the various conversations going on around them. That is no longer necessary.

“Now I feel much more involved with everyone,” Joanie said. “I can answer everyone when they ask me a question and that makes me feel more involved with what’s going on around me. Thank you, Dr. Gessert!”

Nominate Yourself or a Loved One Today.

Hearing is essential for our physical health and our mental and emotional health. Do you know someone who could benefit from hearing aids but has been unable to obtain them due to financial barriers? Please nominate that person for our Hear for the Holidays contest.

Integrity Hearing Center is giving away a FREE pair of hearing aids to one lucky resident of Lincoln or Pike County, Missouri; AND a FREE pair of hearing aids to one lucky resident of Gasconade County, Missouri.

To enter, write a short letter (400 words or less) explaining why you or a loved one would benefit from hearing aids, but have not been able to obtain them due to a financial barrier.

The letters will be judged on the following criteria: hearing need, financial need, opportunity to impact the recipient’s life, and the ability to impact the lives of the people with whom they interact. Email your letter to Kelly.Gessert@gmail.com. Please make sure to include your name and phone number.

The contest runs from November 9 – December 9.

Winners will be selected by a committee of volunteers and notified on December 14.

From my family to yours, happy holidays!
